In the face of adverse effects of greenhouse gas emissions, limited fossil fuels, and the dangers posed by the use of nuclear energy, it should be considered essential to develop forms of renewable energy that are less harmful to the environment. These can have different forms and origins such as solar energy, wind, hydro, geothermal or biomass energy.
In parallel, fuel poverty affects millions of people in Europe. In the EU countries, about 10% of the population (almost 50 million people) are unable to keep their home adequately warm. To add to that, more than 8% of the population are in arrears on utility bills.
These kinds of figures make it important to explore the possible actions and policies that favour on the one hand, the development of renewable energy and facilitate on the other, access to energy for all.
